A Shia/Shiite-Muslim memorial flag showing conjoined Iran-Iraq flags with images of Iran. Gen. Qasem Soleimani (IRGC's "Quds Force" commander) and Iraq "Popular Mobilization Forces" (PMF) deputy commander al-Muhandis, both of whom were killed in a U.S. drone attack early on 3 January 2020 near Baghdad. Al-Muhandis' real name was "Jamal Ja'far Muhammad Ali Al Ibrahim" but popularly known by his nickname ("kunya") Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis ("the Engineer') and regarded as one of Iraq's most powerful men. This conjoined flag has a black mourning border except at the right-side hoist where there appears to be a flag-pole sleeve. One realizes that this is a Shia/Shiite-Muslim flag as the Shiite martyr's name of "al-Hussain" is printed in yellow on the green stripe at the top of the Iranian flag, and "Our Life" in yellow in the top red stripe of the Iraqi flag [which also has the green slogan "Allah Akbar" meaning "Allah is the greatest (god)"] on its middle white stripe. Soleimani is standing behind and slightly above Muhandis. Al-Hussain was a Shia martyr who was killed at the "Battle of Karbala" in Iraq in 680 CE.

Religious green triangle flag image located by William Garrison, 22 January 2024

A commemorative flag memorializing the 3 Jan. 2020 U.S. air-drone killing of Iranian "Maj.Gen. Qassem Soleimani" (commander: IRGC Quds Force), as seen being paraded near the "Imam Khomeini Grand Mosque" in downtown Tehran on Jan. 3, 2024. The white Farsi slogan is an alleged quotation from Soleimani that reads: "I never wanted to pick up a weapon", and a portrait of him is on the right side. A hidden flag-pole sleeve is at the right (hoist) side.

Basij: "Khomeini's Blood Veins"

An Iranian Basiji university student waves a yellow flag with a portrait of the former Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force, General Qasem Soleimani during a rally to mark...

Caption: Not really an IRGC military-unit flag, but a flag brandished about by the IRGC's student "Basij" movement; A yellow-field flag with black-ink images of 5 Iranian personalities loosely related with the IRGC (Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps). Left-to-right:
1: Imad Fayez Mughniyeh (Lebanon Hezbollah).
2: IRGC Maj.Gen. Husayn Hamadani (looks like Mohsen Fakhirizadeh, but not because of the uniform).
3: Lt.Gen. Qasem Suleimani (with his popular scowling mouth), commander of the IRGC's "Quds Force".
4: filmmaker Morteza Avini (has his trademark aviator glasses, and the white streaks in the hair and beard).
5: probably Shaykh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr, a Shiite-Muslim imam killed by the Sunni-Muslim government of Saudi Arabia (The salt and pepper beard and the white turban seem to track).
This yellow flag carried at a rally to mark the thirty-third death anniversary of the Founder of the Islamic Republic: Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini; in front of the main gate of the University of Tehran on June 3, 2022. One slogan in English reads: "Khomeini's Blood Is In Our Veins", and below it that same slogan is probably repeated in Farsi/Persian. (Photo by Morteza Nikoubazl/NurPhoto via Getty Images
